Taking care of children day in and day out can be challenging to say the least, but one of the greatest joys of being a child care provider is getting to listen to the HILARIOUS commentary of little ones! Here is a small compilation of some of the best phrases I heard from my own children and the children in my child care through the years:
- While discussing her great grandmother’s death with the other children, one child said, “You know my Grandma S? I’m going to be REALLY sad when she dies, because she makes the BEST popcorn!”
- While I was preparing for an informal preschool assessment that I performed twice a year, one 4½ year old child looked at me and said, “It’s okay, you don’t have to test me— I already know everything!”
- During dramatic play one day, all was going well during the wedding between two child care children. They had just finished their vows, and the bride said, “I promise to love you forever and ever. Amen.” Then she looked over and said, “’Kay, now pretend that I DIED.”
- During another dramatic play session (This one obviously took place during Fire Prevention Week), I heard: “Pretend you’re the sick doctor and you have a fire and I have to come and save you with my fire truck.” (It took about 10 minutes, but the doctor did get out . . . after having to ask the firefighter NOT to light her on fire!
- During our pet theme in preschool, one child said to the others, “My dad is allergic to kitties, so we have to wait until he dies; then we can get one!”
- One day at lunchtime, I was helping my child care children wash their hands. My son, who was age 3 at the time, asked what we were having for lunch. “Eggs,” I replied. He went over to the fridge to get them out himself. As I ran over to him to retrieve the container, he dropped it. I opened the container to find some of them broken. My son looked at me and said, “I guess we’re having our eggs SCRIBBLED today!”
Do you have any great stories from your kiddos? We’d love to hear them!
