Cooking and sharing recipes gives us the opportunity to interact with each other in a fun way while working on creating healthy eating habits. Tasty Tuesday provides the perfect space to learn recipes, discover new ingredients, and expand the list of our favorite foods!
Enjoy a rainbow of flavors with your children by preparing a Rainbow Pasta bar together. Begin by cooking the pasta and placing it in a container. Consider adding a little olive oil to the pasta to prevent it from sticking together. In small, separate containers place different types of vegetables and fruits cut into bite-size pieces such as:
- red onions
- carrots
- peppers
- strawberries
- clementines
- tomatoes
- cucumbers
- celery
- blueberries
- olives
Food in small bites is more appetizing for the children and invites them to try it. Consider adding protein and dressings to the pasta bar, such as ham, boiled eggs, melted butter, or plain Greek yogurt.
Place all the food items on a table, at the children’s level. Invite the children to notice the different foods. So many options! Set out bowls and spoons. Invite the children to serve themselves pasta and toppings as they wish. Assist as needed. Once the children are ready to eat, talk about their food choices and the colors in their bowls, and celebrate Tasty Tuesday by enjoying delicious and healthy rainbow pasta bowls.
Make sure to share your celebrations on social media using the hashtag #WOYC23.
